For my first list photo, I wanted to highlight the current genocide targeting Uyghur Muslims in China. Due to the lack of media attention that is being given to the victimized population, there was a spur of worldwide protests to demand justice. The dominant color in these protests was a teal blue, the color of the Uyghur flag, as it represents their identity. My subject represents the victims, as many images have surfaced the internet that show rows of Uyghur Muslims sitting in this position, with their hands tied back. The background showcases ordinary people walking back and forth; they simply ignore the tragic events unfolding before them. The reddish-pink tint in the background adds drama to the photo, exaggerating the violence and bloodshed that focuses on the Uyghurs.
